I absolutely enjoyed every moment of my time in Budapest! Budapest is a city filled with history, culinary delights, and rich religious history. Hands down Budapest is my favorite city I have ever been too. (No this is not a paid post).

Budapest Parlament

I loved the historic streets of Budapest filled with beautiful antique doors that make you feel as though you could step back in history. A city who’s taxi drivers emphatically proclaim “you know, we are a Christian country”.

The architecture of this city is like a history and art book in one! There are buildings that have a Classic French design standing in line with German and Communist era buildings.

The food was great and the people were kind!

Our last morning in the city the heat wave broke and it was actually cool as we walked down the side walk to find the hotel’s recommended restaurant. As we came upon it, we realized it was closed and we almost turned back. But right next to it on the corner appeared to be another bistro… We walked a few more steps to find what may have been the biggest gift the Lord has given me the whole trip. Yes I believe good things are gifts from the Father!

cafe church two for oneWe had a arrived at what appeared to be a small cafe with a sidewalk pastry stand and garden style seating. As the waitress brought us our coffee, it was served with prestigious simplicity. The coffee was served on a gold painted plate with three different sugar cubs all in a row. A switch went off in my mind…. this isn’t just a small cafe of no importance. I asked the waitress how long the bistro had been there she replied 101 years!! While we waited for our food I wandered throughout the bistro to discover what was this wonderful place we happened upon? At the front on the door there it was! “Recommended by Michelin 2015 & 2014”. Michelin as in The Michelin Star! A week before I posted on Facebook about a restaurant in Budapest that had won a Michelin star but I would never be able to afford it.

church cafe michelin collage The bistro was beautiful! I didn’t want too take to many pictures as the staff was staring at me with a smirk. This was my wonderland! I had fallen down Alice’s magical hole! There were several rooms one had a small show kitchen lined with tables, in it was the chef cooking our breakfast. Despite their prestiges awards no sign of wanting to cram in the crowds but to maintain the elegance. My only wish is that I had walked up to the chef and watched him cook- if he would have let me… I will never know.Deryne' collage

I returned to our table. I don’t need to tell you but my breakfast was amazing and beautiful! The Eggs Benedict’s flavors were layered beautifully not your average Benedict! Then as we ate, the Church bells began to play. My friends, for that moment it was my heaven on earth there at the little Deryne, the bistro under the Steeple.
